Two people have been killed after flash floods hit the city of Roswell in Mexico – while there have been hundreds of other people who needed to be recused.
Roswell and Chaves County were hit with super damaging floods, damaging homes and sweeping cars off the roads, leaving many local institutions displaced and unusable.
The United States has been hit hard with storms so far, with Hurricane Helene causing massive damage and Hurricane Milton leaving states increasingly ruined.
So far, according to state police, two people died, and 38 people have been taken to hospital so far.
There have been rescues through the night as emergency services have recused 290 people.
According to the National Weather Service, Sunday’s rain set a new record of 5.78 inches, beating out the 1901 record of 5.65 inches, while Chaves County was hit with nine inches.
“We feel for the New Mexicans affected by this latest flooding in our state,” Major General Miguel Aguilar of the New Mexico National Guard said in a statement.
“Because of the previous flooding in Ruidoso, we have the experience and were ready for this. We’ve worked all night and continue to work with swift water rescue teams and other partner agencies to help our fellow citizens get to safety,” he added.
Chaves County Sheriff Mike Herrington went on Facebook to detail how intense the flooding was.
“I’m completely surrounded by water at this time,” Herrington said while the volume of water swept off his truck, “Before I know it, I was swept off into this…multiple vehicles have been swept away as well.”
“To all of you in Chaves County, please stay at home, do not get out. Those people here on the west side of Roswell, a lot of their houses are flooded, their cars are flooded. I’m shaking a bit as it’s chilly out here, I’m sitting on top of my vehicle. Be careful, be safe. I’m waiting until the water goes down,” he added.
